HPV Vaccination

Human papilloma virus vaccines are vaccines that prevent infection by certain types of human papillomavirus. HPV also causes cancers of the penis in men, cancers of the vagina and vulva in women, and cancers of the anus and back of the throat (orohpharynx) in men and women. Available vaccines protect against either two and four types of HPV. The HPV vaccine helps protect you against certain types of HPV that can lead to cancer or genital warts. In addition to preventing genital warts, studies have shown that the HPV vaccine can help prevent anal cancer in men. Preliminary research has also found that the HPV vaccine may protect against penile, oral and throat cancers which are on the rise in young men. HPV vaccination prevents more than just cervical cancer. Vaccination can prevent uncomfortable testing and treatment, even for cervical precancers.
